How To Immigrate To Canada As A Doctor

There are over 100 immigration programs for you to help you immigrate to Canada but as a doctor, we will be looking at the most suitable immigration program for you so that your immigration will be fast, easy and hitch-free. Let’s look at the best immigration program for you as a doctor. We are going to be looking at two immigration programs.

The Express Entry System

This program was initiated in 2015 and was created to speed up the Canadian immigration process and make it easy for immigrants to apply for residence and also work in Canada. In this program you are to create an online profile as the immigration program is done online. In this online program, you will have to fill in some information based on the eligibility requirements of the program but you don’t necessarily need a job offer to be eligible for this immigration program. The Express Entry System is one of the most popular ways to immigrate to Canada and it is also the easiest and quickest way as it takes as short as 6months to process. The requirements or factors in this system are:

  • Work experience
  • Education
  • Language proficiency
  • Proof of sufficient funds and adaptability

After completing your profile within the 60days given, you will be placed in a pool draw will some other applicants and scores will be given to each applicant in the draw based on the requirements presented and this score will be ranked against a cut-off mark in a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and for you to receive an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in Canada, you will have to meet or exceed the CRS cut-off score.

There could be situations where there is a tie; maybe two applicants had the same score and one has to be selected and so, a tie-breaking rule will be applied. The tie-breaking rule states that if two applicants have the same score, the applicant that completes his or her online profile earlier will be chosen ahead of the other. This is why it is important that you complete your profile as early as possible.

In this system, there is always another chance for you if you were not successful at the first time. The Express Entry draws are done every two weeks and this gives you an opportunity to participate in the next draw if you weren’t successful in the first one you did. You will just have to improve your CRS score to boost your chances of being selected. You can improve your CRS score by securing a job offer as a doctor in Canada or have a family member in Canada.

There are three federal immigration streams under the Express Entry System and they are:

  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Canadian Experience Class

There are some paperwork you will have to do before you are being certified to work as a doctor in Canada and it could be done either before immigrating or after immigrating. This profession is very delicate and important and so the process of the paperwork is quite different from other professions.

You will have to see if your qualification as a doctor is recognized in Canada and the World Directory of Medical Schools is a place where you can check this and you will have to do an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) to see if your credentials are valid and equivalent to the Canadian standard.
